The Government of Maldives and the Republic of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the for Development of Addu City Fisheries and Maritime Hub.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China’s Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to advance an important project to establish a fisheries and maritime logistics hub in Addu City.
The MoU was signed by Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, on behalf of the Government of Maldives.
The location of Addu City is considered one of the suitable areas for developing fisheries industry.
The (MoU) aim of bringing further development to the Maldives economy and open a new door for the development of the fisheries sector in the south.
As a result, fishermen in the southern atolls will benefit from improved facilities and increased support. These enhancements will lead to better income from fishing and contribute to improved livelihoods
