Minister Ahmed Shiyam met FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu at UNOC3 in Nice, France

On the sidelines of the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference UNOC3, Minister Ahmed Shiyam met with Director-General Qu Dongyu of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

The Minister expressed appreciation to FAO for its prompt support in implementing the anchored FADs project, which was successfully launched within just a few months of the initial request.

Their discussions focused  on strengthening collaboration in ocean governance, including support for the development of a comprehensive Oceans Act, expanding investment in mariculture, and establishing a dedicated FAO office in the Maldives.

Director-General Dr. Qu reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to opening the office and pledged continued support for both fisheries and mariculture development in the Maldives.
